I rang the support/licensing number in the link above but seem unable to get a firm answer as this is deemed a 'sales' related question and transfer of call to sales doesn't appear to work. I'll give them a call and try to get an email address as I prefer written communication on subjects like this. Licensing team can be found on this link).Īppreciate the phone numbers. So I guess the question here is this: Do _all_ BE product purchases these days come bundled with at least 12 months of support contract? This is entirely unclear to me.

Backup Exec QuickStart Edition is an OEM version of the full Symantec Backup Exec software and generally packaged with tape drives from the manufacturer (such as Dell and Tandberg). given BE2014 is less than 12 months away, and more likely 6 months away, would a purchase of BE2012 quickstart now, that presumably comes with 12 months maintenance, give this customer rights to automatic no cost upgrade into BE2014 when its available? This would then settle my own mind in relation to an ongoing extraneous unsupported customer. Personally have the 'heebies' in being associated with an unsupported product scenario like this, so my real question is.
I understand that WS2012 is unsupported as a media server, but it appears to work nevertheless given a fair bit of testing for this customers environment with the evaluation version of BE2012 Customer has a new WS2012R2 server and wants to buy in backupexec quickstart 2012 to use on this server. Given this, would I be assuming too much in the following scenario? Insofar as I can tell, pretty much all Symantec/Backupexec products come with a minimum of 12 months maintenance built in to the sale price. Been scouring the web and found a lot of hints but I'm struggling to find a definitive answer.
